There are two parts to this dream. I can’t remember what part came first so I’ll write down the least prominent part first.
There’s something about me coming home to a place that wasn’t even my house. It was a night and it was hot despite it only being early spring. Dad had two inflatable pools half set up. He had a big blue rectangle pool. I got a smaller pink and red circular pool. He throws my half inflated pool at my feet and says “Well, get in!”
I look down at the pool and say “There’s no water in it.” Then I look over at two long pool floating bed things and ask what they’re for. He says “You’ll see.”
Just then the entire house and yard is filled up past my head in water. I swim around really badly, trying to keep my head above the water. I see dad in the living room. He’s floating on some kind of huge pool chair that turns out to be his inflatable pool that transformed into a chair.
I look around for my chair but can’t find it.
I can’t remember the rest of that part of the dream.
In the next part of the dream, I was laying down in my bed and heard a squeaking sound. It was loud and obviously from a rodent. I thrash about and try to find it. Finally I knock my comforter over half way on the floor when I hear a thump. I look on the floor and see a baby rodent. It looks like a less wrinkly naked mole rat baby. Its eyes weren’t opened yet and it had its mouth open wide as it cried. It sounded like a cross between a rat and a human baby crying.
I feel terrible for hurting it and pick the poor thing up. Suddenly it turns into an older rat. It starts out gray and changes color. I hold it and snuggle it and make it my pet.
I take the rat to my dad out in the garage to show him and he freaks out. He says it could give me diseases but I ignore him and play with the rat. It gets very anxious and starts to crawl away from me. I hold it tighter and tighter but it keeps slipping through my hands.
Finally, the rat bites down hard on my index finger. The section where I’m bit swells up and blood forms under the skin. I hold the rat still and show dad. I ask him if I’m going to need a rabies shot. He pops the wound like a zit. Thick, almost jelly like blood gushes out. He says yes.
I don’t want to get rid of the rat but I know I have to. I hand it over to dad, crying the entire time. Dad pulls a book out of nowhere, an old Bible it looks like, and places the rat between the center pages. I turn around and hear a huge bang as dad stomps on the book, flattening the rat.
I turn around, crying so hard and look at dad. He pulls the rat out from between the pages. It’s white now and completely flat but not bloody. It looks cartoony. Dad places it on the work bench and I notice it’s still moving. I turn to dad beg him to kill it completely because it’s suffering. When I turn back around, I notice the rat is gone. We look on the floor and see it pathetically pushing itself across the floor at a snail’s pace.
I think dad steps on it but I can’t remember. I know I was crying in real life because when I woke up, my pillow was cold and wet with tears.
